Dion Phaneuf (born April 10, 1985) is a Canadian professional ice hockey defenceman, currently an unrestricted free agent in the National Hockey League (NHL). He has previously played for the Calgary Flames, Toronto Maple Leafs, Ottawa Senators and Los Angeles Kings, serving as captain in Toronto and as an alternate captain in both Calgary and Ottawa. He was drafted ninth overall in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft by Calgary and made his NHL debut in 2005 after a four-year junior career with the Red Deer Rebels of the Western Hockey League (WHL), in which he was twice named the Defenceman of the Year.
