Description
Knockhill Racing Circuit is a motor racing circuit in Fife, Scotland. It opened in September 1974 and is Scotland's national motorsport centre.
The circuit opened in September 1974. It was created by joining service roads to a nearby disused mineral railway, closed in 1951, which served Lethans Colliery. The first car race was held on 18 May 1975.
Between 1974 and 1983 the circuit had several different owners which helped to steadily develop the circuit's facilities and attractions. Since the 1980s, Knockhill has been developed to a point where it is able to host rounds of most of the major British car and motorbike championships. The circuit hosted a round of the British Touring Car Championships for twelve years until the deal ended in 2002 with the promoters seeking infrastructure upgrades. Knockhill made improvements and the touring car series returned to Knockhill in 2004
Circuit Biography
The BTCC wouldn’t be the same without its annual visit to Scotland. Knockhill is located in Fife, just north of Edinburgh, and BTCC cars first raced there back in 1992. The track is one of the shortest on the calendar at just 1.27 miles, narrow and undulating, and its unique character is loved by fans and racers alike.
Amongst Knockhill’s defining features are the high kerbs that launch the BTCC cars onto two wheels as they try to find passing opportunities and faster lap times. This makes for some fantastic chances for keen photographers as well as a tough challenge for the engineers, who have to set up the cars to deal with the undulations Knockhill presents.

race 1
Ash Sutton's British Touring Car Championship title defence gathers pace after the Subaru driver stormed to his fifth win of the 2018 season during a wet opening race at Knockhill.
The Subaru Levorg driver started the opening race from eighth on the grid, but took full advantage of the torrential rain and scythed his way through the pack to eventually take the win ahead of current points leader Colin Turkington.
Following the restart on lap 24, Sutton retained his position with little opposition, as Turkington settled for second, while Cammish completed the podium order for Honda in third.

race 2
Adrian Flux Subaru Racing’s Ash Sutton had seemingly scored his second victory of the day in a shortened Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship race at Knockhill, before both he and second placed Tom Ingram were excluded post race
( both cars failed a post-race ride height check), handing victory to Andrew Jordan..
Treacherous conditions – and a number of incidents – eventually put paid to an exciting contest which Sutton led on the road from start-to-finish. The reigning champ had to contend with two safety car periods as a number of drivers had trouble mastering the slippery surface with heavy rain falling throughout. The race was eventually red flagged after 20 laps

race 3
Motorbase Performance's Tom Chilton has clinched his first British Touring Car Championship victory since Silverstone 2011 after winning a rain-soaked reverse grid finale at Knockhill. The Ford Focus RS driver started from pole position and led every lap of the final race of the day, but had to resist a late charge from championship leader Colin Turkington in order to secure his first win Motorbase colours. Although Turkington managed to make light work of closing the gap to the race leading Ford Focus, Chilton was inch perfect in defence and successfully held the BMW at bay to pick up Motorbase Performance's first race win of 2018.
Just 0.948s separated the top-two as they crossed the line, while BMW Pirtek Racing's Andrew Jordan followed up a further five-seconds behind to complete the podium order in third.
