Hi,
I'm currently developing a football site and paying for data - I have just come across this site and it looks it could be a replacement to what I am using.
My main question is about the copyright on images of the leagues and clubs and players - Are they just for personal use or can they be used commercially?
thanks

Hi, we actually have a feature on the database strCreativeCommonsConfirmed that shows which artwork can be used commercially and which cannot. I can only say that when uploading artwork, our recommended license is creative commons but as users upload the artwork, its not always easy to verify. There is still some work needed on attribution of these images but its in progress.

In the future when our income grows we intend to hire some photographers to take creative commons images at sports matches but its still a little way off. The first step will probably be to purchase a drone and take images of stadiums.

Thank you for the response. I understand that the creative commons is for non-commercial? It seems many sports sites are using logos, etc - I wonder how often they get into trouble with it and if they just get a cease letter or an attempt is made to somehow fine them?

Creative commons can be used commercially but its up to the creator. Any photos we own or take will be licensed to be used commercially. At the end of the day its down to the client app to decide these things really. I honestly don't see a problem with logos personally.

Thanks for the reply - I tend to agree with you - It's really just free publicity for the teams and leagues
