Strange errors today

My app was frequently crashing today when accessing standard v1 API's that it had been doing successfully all of last season, and this season until today!

Rather than getting the expected JSON data, I was frequently getting some html, (which Included:-

"just a moment..." and a "meta name="robots"

which my app was therefore unable to deserialise into a c# structure.

I could see that running the same command via a "thesportsdb" API url occasionally threw up a temporary "robot" type screen, which appears to align with the problem.

Cheers,
Stewart

Yep join discord to get updates, looks like our site is being DDOS'd or abused. Working on mitigating the issue right now.

Anyone reselling our API or hotlinking our images may be subject of a ban!

40+ million hits today. Not good....

Futher DDOS event info:

Seems a single image got linked or went viral in Bangladesh on an android "Dalvik 2.1.0" OS system or app. The image just happened to be an old high quality JPG for La Liga which was 1080p and nearly 500kb in size.

That times 250,000 hits in half an hour meant it basically sucked up our entire bandwidth and crashed the site when the event started.

Lots of mitigation things have been put in place including some temporary bans, image resizing and rate limit changes to images. We also found someone stealing our API and reselling during the investigation. Overall hopefully we are back in business!

Site should be significantly quicker due to the things put in place to prevent the DDOS events. Really fast
