Description The Sony Open in Hawaii is a professional golf tournament on the PGA Tour, and is part of the tour's FedEx Cup Series. It has been contested at the Waialae Country Club in Honolulu, Hawaii, since the event's modern-day inception as the Hawaiian Open in November 1965.
In addition to the usual PGA Tour eligibility criteria, the Sony Open may invite up to three professional golfers from emerging markets.
Japan’s Hideki Matsuyama, overcame a 5-shot deficit on the back nine to close with a 7-under 63 for a 23-under total and set up a playoff for the Sony Open in Hawaii with overnight leader Russell Henley (USA, 65).
He produced an eagle on the first extra hole, firing a 3-wood into the sun, to win his eighth PGA Tour title tying him with K. J. Choi for most Tour victories by an Asian-born player.
