Il Manchester United Football Club (NYSE: MANU), noto semplicemente come Manchester United, è una società calcistica inglese con sede nella città di Manchester. Milita in Premier League, la massima serie del campionato inglese di calcio, dal 1975.
Fondata nel 1902 sulla base del precedente Newton Heath F.C. del 1878, è una delle squadre più vincenti del calcio inglese e internazionale, avendo vinto 66 trofei e 13 campionati dal 1992-1993 ad oggi. Dall'arrivo dell'allenatore scozzese Sir Alex Ferguson, che ha allenato il Manchester United dal novembre 1986 a maggio 2013, la compagine inglese ha conquistato 38 trofei.[1] A livello nazionale il club si è aggiudicato venti campionati (record assoluto), dodici Coppe d'Inghilterra, cinque Coppe di Lega e ventuno (di cui quattro condivise) Supercoppe d'Inghilterra (record).
A livello internazionale ha vinto tre Coppe dei Campioni/Champions League, una Europa League, una Coppa delle Coppe, una Supercoppa europea, una Coppa Intercontinentale e una Coppa del mondo per club FIFA (unico club inglese ad avere vinto sia l'Intercontinentale che il mondiale per club, la vittoria di quest'ultimo è condivisa con il Liverpool). Insieme alla Juventus, all'Ajax, al Bayern Monaco e al Chelsea, è una delle cinque squadre ad aver conquistato almeno una volta tutte e tre le principali competizioni europee per club, ed insieme alle medesime squadre, almeno una volta tutte le competizioni UEFA a cui ha partecipato. Inoltre, è tra le sette squadre in Europa che sono riuscite a centrare il treble, ossia la vittoria del campionato, della Coppa nazionale e della Champions League nella stessa stagione (nel 1998-1999).
È la squadra inglese che nelle ultime 34 stagioni ha registrato l'affluenza media di spettatori più alta, ad eccezione delle stagioni 1987-88 e 1988-89[2]. Il 31 marzo 2007 l'Old Trafford ha registrato il record di spettatori (83.048) nella storia della Premier League, in occasione della sfida tra Manchester United e Blackburn Rovers.

Old Trafford is a football stadium in Old Trafford, Greater Manchester, England, and the home of Manchester United F.C. With a capacity of 75,635, Old Trafford is the second-largest football stadium in the United Kingdom after Wembley Stadium, and the ninth-largest in Europe. It is about 0.5 miles (800 m) from Old Trafford Cricket Ground and the adjacent tram station.
Old Trafford, nicknamed the Theatre of Dreams by Bobby Charlton, has been United's home ground since 1910, although from 1941 to 1949, as a result of bomb damage during the Second World War, the club shared Maine Road with local rivals Manchester City. Old Trafford underwent several expansions in the 1990s and 2000s, including the addition of extra tiers to the North, West and East Stands, which served to return the ground almost to its original capacity of 80,000. Future expansion is likely to involve the addition of a second tier to the South Stand, which would raise the capacity to over 90,000. The stadium's record attendance was recorded in 1939, when 76,962 spectators watched the FA Cup semi-final between Wolverhampton Wanderers and Grimsby Town.
Old Trafford has hosted FA Cup semi-finals, England fixtures, matches at the 1966 World Cup and Euro 96 and the 2003 Champions League Final, as well as rugby league's annual Super League Grand Final and the final of two Rugby League World Cups. It also hosted football matches at the 2012 Summer Olympics, including women's international football for the first time in its history.
