L'Association Sportive de Saint-Étienne Loire, noto semplicemente come Saint-Étienne, spesso abbreviato in ASSE, è un club calcistico francese di Saint-Étienne.
Fondato nel 1919, disputa gli incontri interni al Geoffroy Guichard, stadio appartenente alla città metropolitana di Saint-Étienne e già di proprietà dello stesso club fino al 1965. È la prima compagine del Paese per campionati nazionali vinti (davanti a Olympique Marsiglia e PSG, entrambe a nove), avendone conquistati dieci tra il 1957 e il 1981, e terza per titoli francesi complessivi dopo Paris Saint-Germain e Olympique Marsiglia: vanta infatti anche sei Coppe di Francia, una Coppa di Lega e cinque Supercoppe francesi. In ambito UEFA la miglior affermazione è il raggiungimento della finale di Coppa dei Campioni 1975-76, persa a Glasgow contro il Bayern Monaco.
Nei suoi anni di maggior successo contribuì con importanti giocatori della propria rosa alla prima grande stagione di vittorie internazionali della Francia : vestirono infatti la maglia blu della selezione nazionale elementi come Gérard Janvion, Dominique Bathenay, Dominique Rocheteau e soprattutto Michel Platini.
Al 2020-21 la squadra milita in Ligue 1 e il suo più recente successo è la Coppa di Lega 2013, a trentadue anni di distanza dal precedente titolo, la vittoria del campionato nazionale 1981.

Stade Geoffroy-Guichard is a multi-purpose stadium in Saint-Étienne, France. It is used primarily for football matches, and tournaments such as the 1984 European Football Championship, the Football World Cup 1998 and the Confederations Cup 2003. It is also used for rugby union, and was a venue at the 2007 Rugby World Cup. It is nicknamed "le Chaudron" (the Cauldron), or "l'enfer vert" (the Green Hell), an allusion to the colours worn by the local football team, the AS Saint-Étienne, given during the team's heyday when it drew particularly large crowds (the record being set in 1985, with more than 47,000 spectators). More recently, its current capacity was 35,616 before the current renovations, which began in 2011 and have temporarily reduced this figure to 26,747. When the renovations are finished, the stadium will hold 40,830 seated spectators.
The stadium opened on September 13, 1931, and AS Saint-Étienne's first match there took place on September 17 against FAC Nice. The stadium was named after Geoffroy Guichard, founder of the Casino retail group, who purchased the site on which it was built.
