The team plays in Série D, the fourth tier of the Brazilian football league system, as well as in the Gauchão Série A, the top tier of the Rio Grande do Sul state football league.
Caxias won the Campeonato Gaúcho – Rio Grande do Sul State Championship in 2000 and lost the 2012 Final to Sport Club Internacional.
Its fiercest rival is Juventude, the other club based in Caxias do Sul. The local derby is known as Ca-Ju. Grená currently is ranked as the 46th best team in Brazil, according to the Brazilian Football Confederation Ranking.
