Video Highlights Description Oulton Park Circuit is a motor racing track close to the small village of Little Budworth, Cheshire, England. It occupies much of the area which was previously known as the Oulton Estate. The track is set in the grounds of Oulton Hall, which were used as an army staging camp by General Patton prior to the Normandy landings. At this time the famous boxer Joe Louis gave exhibition bouts at Oulton Park in the vicinity of the Deer Leap section of the circuit. The venue is owned and operated by Jonathan Palmer's MotorSport Vision organisation.
Circuit Biography
One of the most popular events on the BTCC calendar, Oulton Park in Cheshire is as picturesque as it is action-packed. The track was first developed over 60 years ago – built into the natural contours of the landscape – and the BTCC has been visiting for the vast majority of that time.
Occupying an ideal summer spot in June, the circuit regularly attracts huge crowds of more than 40,000 over the course of the race meeting. Oulton Park undoubtedly provides one of the best ‘family atmospheres’ of any BTCC weekend, and in 2013 drivers and team members enjoyed an informal campsite walkabout to meet the fans and soak up the excitement.
Race 1
Pole-sitter Matt Simpson produced a dominant lights-to-flag performance in the opening Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship race at Oulton Park, securing his first ever victory in the UK’s toughest motorsport series.
The championship top two – Adam Morgan and Josh Cook – failed to score a point in their ballast-laden machines, whilst third placed Tom Ingram could only manage a solitary point after he was beaten to the line by the AmD Audi of Ollie Jackson.
Race 2
Team BMW’s Colin Turkington took a commanding race two victory at Oulton Park and immediately dedicated the win to his mother, who passed away last week.
The two-time BTCC champion had been looming ominously in the overall standings coming into the Oulton Park weekend and now the Northern Irishman has hit the top after his latest superb success, his first victory of the 2018 season.
Race 3
German marque BMW scored a sensational 1-2-3 finish in the final Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship race at Oulton Park as Rob Collard headed home stablemates Andrew Jordan and Colin Turkington.
The race was originally red flagged when a huge accident off the line sent Chris Smiley, Tom Oliphant, Daniel Lloyd and Rory Butcher immediately into retirement. All drivers involved were unharmed in the crash, with the delayed race being run over a reduced distance of 12 laps.
