Description
Snetterton Circuit is a motor racing course in Norfolk, England, originally opened in 1953. Owned by Jonathan Palmer's MotorSport Vision organisation.
Snetterton was originally an RAF airfield, RAF Snetterton Heath, later used by the United States Army Air Force. The airfield opened in May 1943 and closed in November 1948. After its use as a USAF base, Snetterton was first used for motorcycle racing in 1953, organised by the Snetterton Combine, an association of clubs in Norfolk and Suffolk.
The track was used by both Team Lotus (Formula One) and Norfolk Racing Co (Le Mans) to test their racing cars. In the 1960s and early 1970s the circuit was 2.7 miles in length. Sear corner was 80 m further from Riches corner and led onto the "Norwich Straight" clearly visible in satellite maps and currently used by a Sunday market. The straight ended in a hairpin bend leading to Home Straight which joined the existing track at the Esses but is now a main access road for the circuit. Russell bend was added in the 1960s and named after Jim Russell who ran a racing drivers school at the circuit. Initially added to improve safety by slowing vehicles as they approached the pits, Russell bend was the scene of many accidents and was later altered to its present configuration.
Circuit Biography
The BTCC has been visiting Snetterton in Norfolk for over 50 years, and in that time the track has undergone a number of layout changes. Most recently, a significant investment saw the circuit extended into the ‘300’ layout used by the championship today, which includes two of the longest straights in the country.
Drawing inspiration from iconic motor sport corners such as Monza’s Parabolica and the Montreal Hairpin, it certainly offers some fantastic viewing for spectators – all of whom enjoy the mid-summer carnival atmosphere, with its July date and first-class camping making for a popular family weekend.

race 1 report
Eurotech Racing driver Jack Goff took a thrilling victory in the opening British Touring Car Championship day at Snetterton by just 0.1s.
The polesitter took command from the start in the wet conditions, and stretched his lead to three seconds after five laps of the three-mile circuit. However, Ash Sutton, driving the factory-backed Team BMR, leapt from the fifth row of the grid to second place after a stunning opening lap Sutton tracked down Goff and the pair were in each other’s wheeltracks on the final tour. Sutton managed to pass the leader with a brave move around the outside of the fast Coram corner, but Goff cut back coming out of the final turn to win a dash to the line by the smallest of margins.
Behind them, Dan Cammish took third place in his Team Dynamics Honda.

race 2 report
Ash Sutton took his third win of the British Touring Car Championship season at Snetterton as he fended off huge pressure over the closing stages of the second race.
Polesitter Jack Goff (Eurotech Racing Honda Civic Type R) made a late call to swap to slick tyres in the drying conditions but was too late out of the pitlane, meaning he was forced to start from the back of the grid. That left Sutton with a clear run to the opening corner and he capitalised, with Dan Cammish in his wheel tracks in the Team Dynamics Honda Civic Type R. Sutton was able to control the pace.

race 3 report
Matt Neal won the special celebration double points BTCC race at Snetterton, the final race of the weekend.
The factory Honda driver started the race, which featured all drivers on the same medium tyres and with no ballast, on the front row and tracked early leader Jack Goff in his Eurotech Racing car. Goff led the opening spell of the race, which was interrupted with a safety car after a collision between Tom Oliphant (Ciceley Mercedes) and Brett Smith (Eurotech Honda).
Goff controlled the restart on lap five but was always under pressure. On lap nine, a rain shower swept across the circuit and the leader was the first to find the slippery surface and slewed wide at the Riches and into the following hairpin.
That let Neal through into first place and allowed the Speedworks Motorsport Toyota to make it a three-way fight for the win. Neal was under pressure all the way to the flag but held on for his second victory of the season and his 63rd career win in all.
Ingram had a couple of attacks at Goff’s second place but, with the championship lead in his pocket, he was pleased with third spot.
