Video Highlights Description The Japanese Motorcycle Grand Prix is a motorcycling event that is part of the Grand Prix motorcycle racing season. Japan is the home to MotoGP™ powerhouses Honda, Yamaha and Suzuki - this makes it one of the biggest manufacturers of motorcycles in the world. The country has a rich motorcycle racing heritage and Motegi Twin Ring Circuit has been a permanent fixture on the MotoGP™ calendar since it first hosted a race in 1999.
The very first Japanese Grand Prix was held back in 1963 at the Suzuka circuit, with 40 Grand Prix taking place in the Land of the Rising Sun by 2017.
MARC Marquez clinched the 2018 MotoGP World Championship with two laps still remaining in the Japanese Grand Prix.
Pole man Andrea Dovizioso fought valiantly, the No.04 Ducati glued to the rear of the No.93 Honda as he looked to snatch the lead on the final two laps. He wouldn’t get the chance. Dovizioso lost the front end of the Desmosedici coming onto the back straight, and with it his slender mathematical chance at the 2018 title.
Marquez was told of his rivals fate at the start of the last lap, enjoying his final tour around Twin Ring Motegi before jubilantly celebrating both the race win and the championship. The 25-year-old Honda rider is now tied with Australian Mick Doohan on five premier class world titles, with only Italian’s Valentino Rossi (seven) and Giacomo Agostini (eight) having won more.
