Gareth Bale (Cardiff, 16 luglio 1989) è un calciatore gallese attaccante o centrocampista del Tottenham, in prestito dal Real Madrid, e della nazionale gallese, della quale è capitano.
Considerato tra i migliori calciatori del mondo in attività,[2][3][4][5][6] è cresciuto nel settore giovanile del Southampton, dal quale viene prelevato all'età di diciotto anni dal Tottenham Hotspur dove, nonostante un inizio difficile per via di alcuni infortuni, si afferma come uno dei più promettenti talenti della sua generazione, tanto da conquistare per due volte il PFA's Best Player of the Year (2011 e 2013) e vincere una Coppa di Lega inglese. Nell'estate del 2013 si trasferisce al Real Madrid per una cifra complessiva di 100 milioni di euro,[7] che ne fanno, in quel momento, l'acquisto più costoso nella storia del calcio. Con la squadra spagnola ha vinto due campionati spagnoli, una Coppa del Re, una Supercoppa di Spagna, quattro UEFA Champions League, tre Supercoppe UEFA e quattro Coppe del mondo per club FIFA.
Con la nazionale gallese, della quale è il miglior marcatore di tutti i tempi, ha partecipato ad un'edizione del campionato europeo (2016).
