William John Robert Nightingale (born 2 August 1995) is an English professional footballer who plays as a centre-back or right-back for Scottish Premiership side Ross County, on loan from EFL League Two club AFC Wimbledon.
Career
Nightingale was born in Roehampton, London. He joined the AFC Wimbledon Academy in 2005 at the age of nine, progressing through the ranks before making the step up to the first team at the age of 18. Nightingale's first association with the first team came as an unused substitute in the 2–0 home loss to Torquay United on 11 January 2014 during the 2013–14 season, for which he was given the number 32 shirt. Nightingale signed his first professional contract with AFC Wimbledon on 6 May 2014, along with fellow Academy graduates Tom Beere, Chace Jaquart and George Oakley. He made his Football league début at the age of 19 years 5 months 15 days on 17 January 2015, coming on as a late substitute against Carlisle United which ended in a 3–1 defeat for the "Dons". The following match he was rewarded by being named in the starting XI in a 2–1 win against Accrington Stanley at Kingsmeadow on 24 January 2015 and the young defender was awarded Man of the Match and commended by manager Neal Ardley for his exceptional performance.
