The 6ft 8″ forward, Jamell Anderson, rejoins the Riders for another season. The Nottingham native has impressed over the past few season, with his development being rewarded through his representation of both Great Britain and England at the Commonwealth Games.
At just 17 years old, City of Nottingham Basketball men’s side swooped for Jamell where he was given the no.12 shirt. In April 2009, Jamell was selected to play for Great Britain U20s at the European Championship in Macedonia. He went on to make his International debut in a friendly match against France in preparation for the tournament in Southend, Essex.
Essex would prove to be home for Jamell, as he signed professional terms with British Basketball League side the Essex Pirates. Jamell spent two seasons playing Small Forward for the Pirates, averaging 9 points and 4 rebounds a game in his second season.
In 2010, Jamell was named as one of two captains for Great Britain U20s, leading GB to their highest finish with a sixth place in the tournament in Austria.
The Nottingham-born baller attracted the attention of Leicester Riders head coach Rob Paternostro and the forward moved to Leicester in 2011, enabling him to study for a degree at Loughborough College. After being named Most Improved player, Jamell signed a three year contract in his second season with the club.
Anderson represented Loughborough Students, captaining the side to promotion in an unbeaten season in 2011. This led to a first call up to the English Universities side which won the BUCS University Championships last year.
Over the summer of 2012 Jamell represented England in a 3-on-3 FIBA World Championship in Athens to add to his Great Britain U23 call-up where he played against Lithuania.
